Gift Guide for Christmas 2023
November 24th, 2023From stocking fillers to gourmet gifts, Somerset specialities and presents to spark little imaginations, our Shopkeeper Sally has curated a thoughtful gift guide to some of her favourite things from across the estate and artisans we love working with, to tick everyone off your list this Christmas
With just over four weeks until Christmas day, we’re making a list, checking it twice and enlisting the help of our experts to guide us through. Our farm shops and online are bursting with estate-made treats, hampers and homewares, which make perfect gifts for the most discerning family members (even those who have everything). Wondering where to start? Read on for Sally’s personalised picks, neatly sorted by gift category, to inspire you.
Top Picks Under £50
Looking for delightful and useful present ideas that won’t blow the budget? Some of our favourites are The Newt reusable water bottle and cup, beautifully illustrated 2024 calendar and Fruits of The Newt Hamper for an uplifting treat. Our own Newt tea towels, made from 100% linen, are as practical as they are stylish, and from experience, always gratefully received. Another failsafe idea is the Single Variety Cyder Tasting Set showcasing our vintage apple cultivars, which is also great for sharing. My final pick is Soil to Table by The Land Gardeners, a book that celebrates soil and its connection to what we eat: perfect food for thought for a new year.
Gifts for Gourmands
Delicious edibles and drinkables are always a good idea, especially for those who delight in the finest food. It’s hard to go wrong with any of our foodie hampers but two of our top picks are the Best of the West Cheese & Charcuterie Selection for the ultimate Christmas cheeseboard or our British Honey Hamper curated by our Head Beekeeper, Paula. This hamper is based around Paula’s personal favourite single origin honey and makes a wonderfully unique gift. For something to last beyond the new year, consider elegant and hard-wearing Alex Pole tools or a sourdough starter kit for budding bakers. The aroma of fresh bread in the morning is the ideal counterpoint to the winter cold and truly good for the soul.
Brilliantly Boozy Ideas
We don’t know many people who wouldn’t relish a bottle of something delicious at Christmas, which makes alcohol gifts one of our most popular. We’re well stocked with cyders from the cellar, fine wines from the Western Cape and our favourite new arrival: The Newt Clementine Gin. Crafted with sun-soaked clementines from our sister farm, Babylonstoren, it’s the perfect festive tipple. We’d suggest choosing something you think the recipient would like but wouldn’t necessarily pick for themselves to keep it interesting.
Gifts for Kids
From A Potion Making Kit to mix up some magic to The Original Den Kit for keen adventurers, our eco conscious range of children’s gifts has been a big hit so far: perfect for firing little imaginations and encouraging creative play in the great outdoors. For fledgling growers, and younger ones, our new range of cheering, squishable soft toys are inspired by the fruits of our orchards and veg beds and can’t fail to raise a smile.
Homeware Inspiration
Unique and useful gifts such as our snuggly Sheepskin Hot Water Bottle Cover, super soft Sheepskin Rug and brushed cotton Newt Picnic Blanket were made for cosying up with this winter. For something one of a kind, a Pomarius Bronze Apple is a direct cast of an apple from our harvest, with no two apples alike. Sybarites will love our range of hampers offering a touch of Newt luxury, from scents to skincare, with the ultimate treat being our Newt at Home Hamper, brimming with bestsellers from the House & Garden Shop.
